Steel (ST) monofilament

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) is a synthetic, monofilament, non-absorbable, and sterile suture material. PVDF is chemically inert, making it particularly suitable for cases where minimal tissue reaction is desired. This monofilament thread has water-repellent properties, allowing it to be used in inflamed or infected wounds, minimizing the risk of suture rejection and wound cavity formation. PVDF does not adhere to tissues or swell, making it ideal for sutures that will be removed later.

Characteristics:

  • Sizes: USP 10/0- USP 2;
  • Shelf Life: 5 years;
  • Color: black, blue;
  • Composition: polyvinylidene fluoride;
  • Tissue reaction: minimal;

Retention of strength on rupture in vivo: Almost all strength on rupture is retained;

Packaging: PVDF is supplied in a sterile, hermetic package with a needle;

Sterilization method: PVDF is sterilized with ethylene oxide;

Application: Polyvinylidene fluoride suture material is suitable for use in cardiovascular surgery due to its anti-thrombogenic properties. It is widely used for suturing and ligating soft tissues, including neurosurgical, ophthalmological, and dental procedures. Additionally, PVDF is used as a skin suture, primarily in plastic surgery.
